Makaio's holistic health journey has been heavily influenced by his early experiences of self-discovery and observing the natural environment. He grew up with a fascination for exploring the outdoors, foraging for wild edibles, and connecting with his surroundings. He was first introduced to acupuncture in 2013, following a solo expedition of the entire Columbia River by standup paddleboard (a record first). This transformative experience sustained multiple repetitive motion injuries to which acupuncture assisted in his recovery process. It was not until years later, when he reconnected with family, he learned of his Korean ancestry and discovered there were multiple generations of acupuncture and herbal medicine practitioners in his lineage, dating back to his great-grandfather who immigrated to the United States. Reconnecting with my family and uncovering his Korean heritage ignited his passion for the field, and further deepened his commitment to acupuncture and herbal medicine.

He is currently a doctoral student of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine at Pacific College of Health and Science in San Diego, CA. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University, where he double-majored in Special Education and Elementary Education. With over 10 years of experience as a teacher, he bring a rich educational background to his practice connecting with individuals of diverse backgrounds and talents. Additionally, he is a certified Reiki Master in the Usui system and a Kambo practitioner certified through the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP). His innate healing ability and spiritual connection have been present from a young age.

His practice is inspired by ancient and indigenous traditions, bridging the old with the new and connecting various cultures. He specializes in sound, music, and vibrational therapy, using flutes, gongs, chimes, tuning forks, and other instruments. He also explores microcurrent, light, magnetic, and frequency therapies, integrating these modern techniques with traditional practices.

He is dedicated to the continuous exploration and integration of holistic health practices. His work is guided by the wisdom of the classics and indigenous traditions, where he remains committed to lifelong learning and connecting with mentors from diverse backgrounds. His goal is to offer a healing practice that honors both ancient wisdom and contemporary innovations.
